Careers and Employability Centre Talk

As apart of our first interaction with CEC we had an informational talk on how they can help us with this course and what services they have to offer.

Resources:

- Career Hub: This is a website which lists graduate and part time job vacancies

- CEC Meetings: You can easily book one to one appointments with CEC staff to discuss career options or for advice on anything in relation to finding yourself a job eg. CV help

- Prospects.ac.uk: This website has information on career fields, letting you know specifics on what to expect when applying for a certain job role.

- BBC/Channel 4: Graduate training schemes are available to apply for

- www.sussex.ac.uk/careers/whatourgraduatesdo: a website that shows graduates from Sussex went into career wise.

The Media and Internet Sector in UK has a high demand for social media and digital media users and graduates. However, the graduate vacancies in large media companies have been decreasing due to smaller companies advertising more vacancies globally.

As well as directly applying for advertised internships, a good idea is to apply speculatively. Speculative applications are what it means to contact companies that aren't hiring but could be potentially interested in having you as an intern.

UPDATE: after looking at these note above that I made on the talk, I decided to re-watch to see what else I could gain from the CEC and their opportunities.
